I. PAST YEARS
Born as part of the Sultanate of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat as Iskandar Prasetjo, it was no surprise Iskandar would turn out to be an influential and powerful man in his adulthood. Depending on who's talking, recounts of Iskandar's childhood and schoolyears differ. Being sent to the Netherlands to study might be considered a very high privilege with full of prestige. That is something he will not deny, however, he'd argue it was one of the most miserable years of his life. There are a number of factors contributing to his rather strong statement about his school years; the first was in regards to his older brother and the problem of being sent away. As a twelve-year-old boy at the time, the idea of being so far from home was something he had trouble comprehending despite the tradition of studying in the Netherlands being done in the family for years. His strained relationship with his older brother, who is the heir of the throne and went to the same school as he did, was another contributor.
The second reason was in regards to Anke Janssen, his lover at the time. The two met at the last few years of their study at Amsterdamse Magische School voor Ambtenaren (AMSA) and began dating at around seventeen, though they managed to keep their relationship a secret for a good two years. And it was made a secret for the good reason. The moment people — and eventually the Keraton, his family (alternatively known as the Sultanate of Yogyakarta) — started to find out about their secret affair, it made quite the buzz due to the fact that he, a native Javanese man (albeit royal) is in a relationship with Anke whose status is a white Dutch lady. Even though the Royal Family and people disagreed with the relationship, Iskandar managed to convince Anke to continue their relationship. After four years of dating, the couple eventually broke up mostly due to external pressure. As this breakup severely broke Iskandar's heart, it took him more than just a few years to move on from the woman he foolishly thought he would spend the rest of his life with.
This event also led to the shift of Iskandar's persona — from the fierce yet gentle Prince who loves his Anke to spending his free nights partying, divulging himself to sex, alcohol, and women. As expected, the Keraton highly discouraged the behaviour but Iskandar disregarded the harsh comments from his family and continued on out of spite; eventually being known as 'the disgraced prince' by the people back home in Yogyakarta.
II. CURRENT YEARS
Despite his name and royal title officially changing after he reached a certain age as Prasetjo Hardjonegoro, he would still introduce himself and insist on the name Iskandar Prasetjo.
After he graduated from AMSA, Iskandar started working for the Dutch East Indies Ministry of Magic. He quickly rose through the ranks with the help of his intelligence, steadfastness and of course, his privilege of being a pureblood royal; hence by the age of twenty-two, he was appointed as a diplomat and to be stationed in France. Twelve years later, he became Director of Foreign Affairs and was also tasked to represent the interest of the Dutch colony in the International Confederation of Wizards. And with that, he is now known as Director Prasetjo.
III. RELATIONSHIPS
A. FAMILY AND THE SULTANATE OF YOGYAKARTA
As unsurprising it is, Iskandar's relationship with his family and the Keraton has been estranged since he was young—to put it lightly. Disagreements started on the small things such as the pressure on the young prince to be academically excellent, this escalated to the meddling of his love life, and then his particular lifestyle as he reached adulthood. Disgraced, frowned upon, aib, Iskandar is the black sheep of the family. This treatment caused resentment and anger to foster inside the man.
To him, his father and brother were the worst of them all. Harsh, vile, cold, and uncaring. During school, he would fight endlessly with his brother. This caused the infamy between the two, especially the younger prince, with his anger and stubbornness. His father wasn't far from his own brother too. In fact, Iskandar believed that his brother is just a carbon copy of his father as surveillance and to make his life a living hell during their study in Amsterdam.
B. FRIENDS AND PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Iskandar has been long friends with two of his former classmates at school: Griffilioen Mirre and Hendrik van Deventer. Griffilioen now works at the Dutch Ministry of Magic, the same level as Iskandar's but in the different departments. Hendrik, on the other hand, is a professor at their former school to teach law and owns a modest bookshop in Amsterdam.
At work, he's good acquaintances on many of his fellow ICW representatives, ranging from the Americans to the Chinese and of course the Dutch. Though he does have a number rocky relationships with a few others, notably Gellert Grindelwald.
In terms of his place within the Dutch East Indies Ministry itself, he maintains a fairly good relationship with his staff as they look up to him. However, the story is a bit different from his fellow peers in Batavia. The revolutionary spirit for independence has grown over the years and as someone who has maintained his allegiance to the Dutch, this surely caused some conflict within the Ministry to a point where there are two sides; the ones who leaned pro-Dutch that is usually led by Prasetjo and the Nationalists who wishes to end the Dutch's colonisation in the Indies.
